Between Stone and Sky with Whitney Brown

Wednesday 21st August 2019, 7:30pm, Cogito Books

We're thrilled to be welcoming author and dry-stone waller Whitney Brown to Cogito to talk about her memoir Between Stone and Sky.

The book is a celebration of the raw and rugged splendour of the Welsh countryside and the enduring beauty and relevance of traditional craftsmanship. It's an unflinchingly honest account of the emotional struggle to become and belong. Most of all, it's an empowering story of female friendship, accepting uncertainty and risk, and crossing oceans in pursuit of dreams.

Whitney Brown is a dry-stone waller and folklorist based in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Originally from upstate South Carolina, she earned a Master’s in Folklore from the University of North Carolina. She first visited Wales in 2009, and after several years of bouncing between universities, museums, festivals, commercial kitchens, vegetable farms, and the wild hills of mid-Wales, began a stone masonry business of her own in America. She returns to Wales as often as she can.

Do come and join us for what promises to be a fascinating evening with Whitney as she talks about her own life changing experiences. Tickets are £5, available from us here at Cogito or just call 01434 602555 if you'd like us to put one aside for you.
